No Twilight for Ryan Kwanten

HBO's "True Blood" star Ryan Kwanten stays 'true' to his vampire clan.

While there was an audience pulling for him to get a role in "Twilight's Breaking Dawn," he admits he didn't have any desire to be part of such a monstrous franchise.

"Not really. I see why people love it and I see why it has a huge audience. I just don't like that material, it's just not my cup of tea," he told NextMovie.com.

But like it or not, hunky vampires are a hot commodity in Hollywood these days. "The Twilight Saga" just sunk its teeth into the People Choice Awardswith eight nominations.

Could this be a battle of the vampire hunks?

No, and if he wanted to compete, he would have posed nude on the cover of Rolling Stone like some of his "True Blood" co-stars did.

'Ah no, there's no reason to. I do it somewhat willingly for 'True Blood' -- it always come from a story point that is never truly arbitrary. I can't for the life of me see why I would [pose nude], unless it was an unbelievable pitch," he explained. "I don't see why there would be a need for me to be nude on the cover of a magazine."

Ryan Kwanten 'avoids True Blood spoilers'

Ryan Kwanten has revealed that he tries to avoid finding out what will happen in True Blood.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Kwanten explained that he wants the reactions of his character Jason to be as real as possible.

"I pride myself on being one of the last to know [what will happen] because I almost feel like it hinders my performance to know too much," he said.

"Because Jason very rarely knows what's happening in the next minute, let alone the next episode. So I like playing it with that kind of spontaneity."

True Blood cast: Ryan Kwanten

Ryan Kwanten (born 28 November 1976) is an Australian actor. He played Vinnie Patterson from 1997 to 2002 on the Australian soap-opera Home and Away. After his stint ended he joined the American teen-oriented drama Summerland portraying Jay Robertson. In 2008, he was cast as Jason Stackhouse in True Blood.

Kwanten was born in Sydney, New South Wales to Eddie Kwanten, a worker at NSW Maritime, and Kris, a lifeline op-shop coordinator. He is of Dutch ancestry on his father's side. Kwanten has two brothers, Mitchell, who is a musician and Lloyd, who is a doctor. He attended Catholic school.

Kwanten began acting on the television shows A Country Practice and Spellbinder. In 1997, he joined the cast of the Australian soap opera Home and Away, playing lifeguard Vinnie Patterson. He eventually chose to leave the series in 2002, shortly after his character married and became a father. Moving to the United States, Kwanten was cast as Jay Robertson in the Lori Loughlin-starring series Summerland, which ran from 2004 to 2005. He appeared in the films Flicka, with Maria Bello, Alison Lohman and Tim McGraw, and Dead Silence, a horror movie in which he played the leading role.

Kwanten made an appearance in a Law and Order: SVU episode that aired on 2 December 2008, in which he portrays US Marine Corps Master Sergeant Dominic Pruitt who is (falsely) accused of raping and murdering a fellow Marine and murdering her unborn baby.

In 2009, he starred in the film Don't Fade Away with Mischa Barton and Beau Bridges.

Kwanten currently plays the role of Jason Stackhouse in True Blood, an HBO television series based on Charlaine Harris' Southern Vampire Mysteries. He stars in the psychological thriller Red Hill, which was directed by Patrick Hughes. Kwanten earned one of the lead roles in the Joe Lynch Horror film The Knights of Badassdom.
